Summer Reading Program Kicks Off

A summer reading program gets in full swing with the help of Brewers slugger Ryan Braun.

The Sharp Literacy Summer learning gain initiative kicked off with a rally at the Neighborhood Garden House on Friday.

Sharp Literacy's eight week summer educational program will reach about 350-kids at nine locations throughout the city of Milwaukee.

Braun spoke to the kids at three different locations and hit home the fact that reading during the summer is fun and it helps students achieve when they go back to school in the fall

“It’s cool for me to contribute to be able to partner with them to help kids to read.  I think reading is such a beautiful thing, it's so powerful, it's an opportunity for people to grow to learn to be inspired to be motivated and to be productive with their time during the summer,” said Braun.

The kids also enjoyed some ice cream, a little baseball, and got to meet the Brewers famous racing sausages.
