Study released looks at water and manufacturing

A collaborative study on the challenges of water, particularly on the Milwaukee area manufacturing industry, was released on Tuesday morning. Its goal is to better understand the need of water in the future, and how to protect it.

The U.S. Council on Competitiveness, A.O. Smith Corporation, Marquette University have been working on this study.

They started in February with a conference, inviting 50 national leaders and water experts to talk about the economic impacts water and manufacturing play in the world.

They were able to come up with a number of recommendations to increase the future water demand.

The study outlines recommendations on improving the areas of infrastructure, technology, investment and talent.

“This is a great collaboration between the education field and business and government coming together to address these issues, explained, Ajita G. Rajendra, CEO, A.O. Smith Corporation

Michael R. Lovell, President of Marquette University added, “Water is a precious commodity. It’s going to be a worldwide challenge for decades to come. And so I think about Milwaukee in particular and we are very well positioned in a city to be an international leader when addressing the issues identified in the report.”

These recommendations will be put into the overall report, and given to the president-elect of the United States.
