St. Florian Church to close, merger sought with Holy Assumption Parish

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Change is coming to one of the oldest Catholic parishes in the Milwaukee Archdiocese.

The administrator for St. Florian Parish in West Milwaukee confirmed masses will end at the church in September, and leaders are trying to merge St. Florian with Holy Assumption Parish in West Allis.

Parishioners have been notified about the change.

St. Florian Church, located at 45th and Scott, dates back to 1911 -- 109 years ago.

The church campus will be sold to Notre Dame Catholic School.

St. Florian's administrators are planning to hold a closing mass at the old church.

Details will be announced later.
