'Souls to the Polls' sit-in aims to mobilize voters for November election

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Labor Day sit-in on the city's northwest side was aimed at getting people to the polls this November.

Souls to the Polls, along with several churches, unions and community groups, gathered near Meinecke and Teutonia Monday afternoon, Sept. 7.

Organizers described it as a Labor Day celebration, saying labor unions are helping to make America a more equitable society.

People who attended were offered information about voter registration, absentee ballots and safe and healthy voting practices.

Speakers also focused on the pandemic, providing attendees with safety screens, masks and cleaning wipes.
