Milwaukee airport prepares for a busy holiday travel week
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Acting Milwaukee County Sheriff Richard Schmidt says some of his deputies will soon start wearing bodycams.
Deputies have dashcams in their squads but deputies patrolling the parks on foot do not wear bodycams. The Sheriff told CBS 58 that he's launching a pilot program in a couple weeks.
A small group of deputies will wear the cameras and he hopes to expand the program in next year's budget.
"In today's technological world, everybody's got cameras, everybody has cell phones and people want to see what's going on. It's just the way our culture is. So, I'm in favor of that. I want to see what's going on," Acting Sheriff Richard Schmidt said.
The Sheriff said bodycams basically show the public that law enforcement officers are doing the right thing.
