Shots fired between Milwaukee police, suspect accused of leading officers on pursuit in stolen car

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee man was taken into custody Monday after exchanging fire with officers during a pursuit.

Police say the chase began around 4:55 p.m. near 51st and Burleigh when officers pursued a stolen vehicle. 

When the pursuit reached the area near 75th and Marion, police say a person in the suspect vehicle fired at officers, and two officers returned fire. 

Officials say it appears that no one was struck and no property was damaged.

The suspect, a 21-year-old man, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a pole near 34th and Capitol before being taken into custody. 

Authorities say a firearm was recovered, and charges are pending. 

Both officers were placed on administrative duty as an investigation takes place.
