Shoppers snagging up deals in preparation for Christmas 2026

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- From clothes that don’t fit or a gift that’s just not your cup of tea, today marks the start of holiday returns. Among the crowd of returns are some people who are taking advantage of last-minute holiday deals.

Some Christmases, Santa's got a list, but he didn’t check it twice. So now, it’s up to grandma to stand in line.

“I am taking back an outfit I got for my grandson. He does not like the color,” said shopper Mae Mueller. “I'm just – I’m impatient and I just want to get it over with.”

While some shoppers are glad to be done with the holidays, others are just getting started…364 days in advance.

“I always go out the day after Christmas and look for Christmas items on sale and buy it for people I kinda know their likes and dislikes,” said shopper Patricia Lewis.

Some deals are just too good to pass up.

“Today we started at 8 in the morning, but we do it every year,” said shoppers Ingrid and Matt Lang. “It works out great. We get the deals for next year, so it eases up our pocketbook for next year.”

There’s just one small risk that comes with planning ahead.

“I store it and then I have to hope I remember where I put it,” said Lewis.

So, whether you’re headed to the store to make a return or you already know to what to get someone before Santa does, expect the lines to be long and the gifts to be plenty.

“I think we have to try and find every way we can to keep the holidays from being a burden and to be an enjoyable event,” said Lewis.
