MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The weather was perfect for a celebration of generosity in Milwaukee on Saturday, July 27.
Sherman Park Grocery held their annual giveback on Fond du Lac.
$10,000 worth of grocery gift cards were handed out, with an emphasis on fruits and vegetables.
The owner says it's in honor of the store's two-year anniversary and to celebrate, they wanted to address food insecurity and health equity.
"We decided to assist our customers, that are for the most part below the poverty line facing childhood obesity, cholesterol, diabetes, literally, the grocery store is in one of 13 food deserts in the city of Milwaukee. we found our customers have a food shortage since the cutting off of the covid benefits," said Maurice Wince, owner of Sherman Park Grocery.
Free food wasn't all the people were treated to. There was also a community fitness class, food, drinks, family friendly activities, and more.
