Sherman Park Community Association holds annual housing resource fair for first-time buyers, renters
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Dozens filed inside of the Mary Ryan Boys and Girls Club at Sherman Park on Saturday morning to attend the annual housing resource fair.
The event, hosted by the Sherman Park Community Association (SPCA), featured various local nonprofit organizations and other vendors with an overall goal of helping first-time home buyers, tenants, and everyone in between.
“We love being able to problem-solve for people and this is a really good place for people to come and get those solutions to whatever situation they’re in," said SPCA's Executive Director Mabel Lamb, who has called the area home for more than 20 years. “Wherever people are in their life, we’re here to help them.”
Sherman Park is one of the oldest and most diverse areas in greater Milwaukee, and organizers said they are hoping the annual one-stop shop will attract buyers.
“Everyone lives their lives day-to-day so when you put on organizations like this it kind of gives people the pause to think, I could be a homeowner too," said Stephanie Holt, who purchased her house in 2018.
For other attendees, like Dr. Laneice Runnels of Milwaukee, the fair was educational and one many could benefit from.
“I really enjoy when the community comes in the community, when different resources come here," Dr. Runnels said. “There’s really no reason why you cannot be a homeowner, this is our city so we should own a piece of our city.”
If you missed out on Saturday's event, organizers with the SPCA said you can reach out to them anytime if you have questions or need help.
