Sheriff's Department warning against 'Waukesha County Clerk of Courts' scam

WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Waukesha County Sheriff's Department is warning against a scam that is going around the area.

They've taken several complaints so far. Citizens are receiving calls from an unknown person stating that they are from the Waukesha County Clerk of Courts. The person goes on to say that you owe money for jury duty or fees related to a court hearing or unpaid fines.

If you do not answer, the person allegedly leaves a message advising you to call the Waukesha County Clerk of Courts at 262-408-6373. The Sheriff's Department advises that the number is NOT a valid number for the clerk of courts.

Furthermore, The Sheriff's Department says the Waukesha County Clerk of Courts will not call you about unpaid fines. You will recieve a written notice in the mail if you have any unfinished business with them.

As always, the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department asks that you don't give out your personal information or credit card information over the phone to anyone unless you know who they are.
