Sheriff: Milwaukee hunter dies after fall from tree stand

TOWN OF GREENFIELD, Wis. (WISC) -- A Milwaukee man died after falling out of a tree stand while he was hunting in Sauk County on Sunday, according to a Sauk County Sheriff's Department news release.

Deputies said Jacob Herr, 50, was deer hunting and using a self-climbing stand to scale a hardwood tree when he fell.

The release said a hunting companion located Herr near the base of the tree stand.

According to deputies, Herr was wearing a safety harness, but it had not been attached to the tree.

Deputies said the incident happened between 4:30 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. on public hunting land located off Tower Road in the town of Greenfield, located southeast of Baraboo.

Officials said they don't suspect foul play.
