NEW BERLIN, Wis. (CBS 58) – A K-9 officer helped end a police chase that spanned two Waukesha County communities.

Brookfield Police tried to stop a dark-colored GMC for speeding in the area of I-94 and Mooreland Road around 4:00 a.m. Wednesday,  but officers ended the chase when the car took off.

New Berlin Police picked up the chase when they saw the vehicle near Calhoun Road and Cleveland Avenue but it took off again. The suspects drove into New Berlin West High School’s parking lot and ultimately drove into a ditch.

Three teen boys, ages 13 and 14, ran into a heavily wooded area.

New Berlin Police sent out a K-9 Unit that was able to track one of the teens down and bit him because he wasn’t following commands.

The other two suspects were later found after authorities got a tip from someone in the area.

Police say this is becoming all too common in the area.

“We’ve definitely been seeing a lot more of this in the last year or two where the suspects and the people stealing these cars are getting in these chases are younger and younger. In this case 13 and 14. It’s definitely becoming a trend,” said Captain Michael Glider with the New Berlin Police Department.

Police say the car was stolen from West Allis and a gun was found inside the car. All three teens are facing charges.
