Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu announces he will not seek reelection

MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Sen. Devin LeMahieu, R-Oostburg, announced Thursday, March 19 that he will not run for another term in the state Senate. LeMahieu has served as majority leader since 2020 and in the Senate since 2015.

"After careful reflection and prayer, I have made the difficult decision to not seek re-election," LeMahieu said in a statement.

"The time has come for a new chapter in my life. I am looking forward to spending more time with my wife in our new Madison-area home," noting that he plans to support "old conservative reform" even while not in office.

He represents Sheboygan, Manitowoc, Calumet and Fond du Lac counties and previously served on the Sheboygan County Board.

His announcement comes two days after Sen. Van Wanggaard, R-Racine, the longest-serving Republican state senator, also announced his retirement.
