WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- Senator Tammy Baldwin said she wished there were more restrictive gun measures in the deal reached earlier this week to combat gun violence, but overall is pleased with the progress.
Meanwhile, some Republicans are still reluctant to support the package.
"I think it's really important that Congress rise to this occasion. Again, not all the provisions I would want, but to make some progress is hugely important," Sen. Baldwin said.
"If it's another political partisan attempt by Democrats to disarm law abiding citizens, I'm not going to support that because the second amendment is a fundamental protection for every American, said Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas).
A key Senate leader, Mitch McConnell, said Tuesday he would back the gun control bill if the bills are in line with the bipartisan agreement.
McConnell's support would boost any of the bill's chances of passing the 50-50 Senate.
