WASHINGTON COUNTY (CBS 58) – A semi-truck carrying 39,000 pounds of sausage overturned Sunday evening after the driver swerved to avoid hitting a deer on Interstate 41.
Authorities say it happened around 10:55 p.m. in the southbound lanes near State Highway 28 in the Town of Wayne.
While swerving, the driver lost control of the semi-tractor trailer which then rolled onto its side in the median.
The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and is expected to be okay.
Crews worked for several hours unloading the sausage from the truck so it could be righted. Authorities said the highway was closed around 5:15 a.m. while crews removed the truck.
Traffic is being detoured onto State Highway 28 to Midland Road.
