Semi stuck on Lake Park bridge

A semi truck became stuck on a historic bridge in Milwaukee's Lake Park neighborhood Tuesday night.

The crash happened shortly after 7 p.m. when the 50-year-old driver was apparently following his GPS and took a wrong turn. The truck ended up near the North Point Lighthouse, stuck on a historic bridge more than 100 years old. The Milwaukee County Sheriff's office says the man is being charged with reckless driving and for not obeying signs. Witnesses who were in the area at the time can't believe what they saw.

“How are they going to get it out of here? I imagine a crane or something, I don't know,” Mary Schrank, a lighthouse employee, said.

Officials returned to assess the damage to the historic bridge Wednesday morning and said a crane will have to lift the 53-foot trailer from the scene.

The driver was not hurt but was taken to a local hospital to be checked out.
