Season snow check after Monday's lake effect and Tuesday's flurries
Safe to say winter weather has finally arrived. Over the weekend we saw the first snowflakes of the season and the first measurable snow with a smattering that fell Saturday night into Sunday morning. The first trace of snow came later than average Saturday evening but the first measurable snow Sunday was a few days earlier than average.
Milwaukee did not get any measurable snow with the lake effect Monday morning but parts of eastern Racine and Kenosha Counties got hammered. The snow gradient was very tight with areas near the Lake seeing around a foot of snow while communities closer to the freeway only got an inch or two.
Milwaukee picked up it's only measurable snow of the season Sunday morning with 0.6" which is exactly average for snowfall for the season right now. Last year we only had a trace by this point of the season. Tuesday morning also saw some snow showers and flurries but no accumulating snow happened in Milwaukee.
In addition to the first snows of the season over the weekend, we also finally saw the arrival of the cold air. Milwaukee dropped to 28 degrees Sunday morning for the first killing freeze of the season which was just a couple days later than the average. The first freeze at the end of October came a few days later than average and the first frost was ten days late.
