Salvation Army in need of coat donations

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County says they are in dire need of coat donations for those in need.

As of December 4, the Salvation Army says there are only 2,000 coats available which is more than 2,500 behind the number of coats that were given out in 2016.

The Salvation Army is accepting new or gently used coats for both children and adults as well as new hats, mittens, and scarves. The organizations say spring coats and sweatshirts cannot be accepted.

The coats will then be given to Milwaukee County families in need on December 8 and 9. The Salvation Army says due to colder temperatures this fall, more than 200 coats were given to families in need and their inventory has depleted.

Coats can be dropped off at the Salvation Army, Steinhafels, and Johnson Bank. For hours and addresses of drop-off locations, please click here.
