Residents of 24 unit apartment building displaced by afternoon fire

MILWAUKEE, WI (CBS 58) -- The residents of a large apartment building on Milwaukee’s south side are being assisted by the Red Cross following an apartment fire this afternoon.   Around 3:10 PM the Milwaukee Fire Department was called to the building at S 23rd and W Layton Avenue.   According to officials, the fire was confined to one apartment in the 24 unit building and it was quickly extinguished.   Most of the residents were displace due to smoke damage in the building.   There is yet to be an dollar estimate of the damage and the  cause of the fire is under investigation.
