Residents gather in Red Arrow Park to rally for roller skating rink

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee's roller skating community celebrated the first summer of a pilot program at Red Arrow Park.

They gathered today, on Aug. 27, at Red Arrow Park, in support of the outdoor roller skating rink.

Right now, the park is only used during the winter months as an ice skating rink and advocates say it's a perfect spot for a roller skating rink in the summer.

Local skaters say the city needs to bring back this roller skating rink.

"It brings camaraderie and diversity. It's family oriented and it's an exercise, a fun exercise," said coordinator Terrence Clarke. "It's just something the parks don't understand. The skating culture in Milwaukee is really big and very huge."

Since this is a pilot program, it's unclear if the city plans to bring it back next summer.
