GREENFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Residents of a local retirement home are lending a hand to the Milwaukee Police Department and the community. 

Milwaukee Police officers from District 1 stopped by Clement Manor Wednesday, Aug. 5, to pick up 50 bags of toys and coloring supplies put together by their very own residents. 

Officers will distribute the bags to children who attend their National Night Out event on Friday, Aug. 7, and can also give them to the children they encounter responding to calls for service. 

This partnership is valued by both the department and the Clement Manor residents. 

"They have something to look forward to, they get very excited," said Sgt. Carrie Pocernich. "They put together other packages for us in the winter, so they asked what else they could do, and we suggested maybe something for children."

In the past, the residents have also helped assemble bags of necessities the officers could use during homeless outreach.
