Brewers team up in Milwaukee's Merrill Park to serve meals to hometown kids
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A couple of Milwaukee Brewers' players had some fun in Milwaukee's Merrill Park on Wednesday, Aug. 5, serving meals to local kids.
Cooper Pratt and Logan Henderson kept plates full at the annual Summer Sizzle event, a collaboration with Hunger Task Force, Sargento, and Centers for Independence.
The party at Merrill Park included games with the Brewers Street Team, and appearances by Bernie Brewer, the Famous Racing Sausages, and Sarge -- the Sargento mascot.
Hunger Task Force's summer meals program has been going on for more than 20 years, ensuring Milwaukee kids have healthy and nutritious food.
"Summer's a really important time because it's the peak time for childhood hunger," said Jonathan Hanson, chief strategy officer with the Hunger Task Force. "We served over 100 meals today. Over the course of the summer at all of our meal sites, we're going to serve over 500,000 meals to local kids here in Milwaukee County. Community support makes that happen."
Hunger Task Force is organizing around 130 free summer meal sites throughout Milwaukee County this summer.
