MILWAUKEE - A remodeling project at a popular Milwaukee bar revealed a historic surprise.
"Once we decided we're gonna do some remodeling here we thought, well what the heck, let's take off one of these panels and find out if the mural still exists," said the owner of VOn Trier John Sidoff.
John Sidoff, the owner of Von Trier on the east side, discovered an abstract mural from the 1950's. It was hidden under another painting for years. They also found the artist, 93-year-old William Lachowicz living in Washington State.
The surprises continued.
"Somebody had actually shot through the original mural and the gun holes are visible in this new mural," Sidoff said.
You can see the old mural through the holidays. After the bar is renovated, the painting that was covering it will be restored since it fits more with the bars German theme.
