MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Shocking surveillance video captured the moment a driver in a truck crashed into a woman and her son.
It’s too hard to watch for Paul Reyes. "I just can't," he said. "Just to see your mother bounce almost 20, 30 feet."
Maria Reyes, 75, and her son Nick, who has Down syndrome, were hit by a truck as they tried to cross the street near 19th and Grant. The two were knocked down and tossed down the street.
According to MPD, the August 15th crash happened around 9:30 p.m.
The family is trying to make sense of it. "My mother waved him down, he just sat there,” Paul said. "He stopped for them to get in the middle of the street and then he went."
The truck hit Maria first causing her to get hurt the worse.
"Nine broken ribs, a broken collar bone, and a broken pelvis."
One week later, she's still in the hospital and will need long-term rehab to recover from her injuries. Nick was able to walk away after the crash. He suffered scrapes and bruises.
According to MPD, the driver was taken into custody for driving without a license and for causing bodily harm.
