NOW: Racine Zoo prepares for October events and volunteer opportunities

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Racine Zoo has a full slate of events planned for October, from Halloween fun to educational programs. Beth Heidorn, executive director, and McKenna Moats, marketing manager, joined us on Monday, Sept. 29 with a preview.

The 4th annual Jack-O’-Lantern Nights runs Thursday, Oct. 2 through Friday, Oct. 31 on Thursdays through Sundays from 6 to 10 p.m. Admission is $10 at the door. Visitors can follow a paved path with pumpkin displays, hay bales and spooky lighting.

Old Fashioned Cocktail Night takes place Saturday, Oct. 4 from 6 to 9 p.m. Attendees 21 and older can sample and vote their favorite take on Wisconsin’s signature cocktail from competitors from along Lake Michigan.

Boo at the Zoo is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with trick-or-treating, crafts and animal encounters.

The zoo also offers Lil’ Explorers preschool classes for children ages 2 to 5 and is accepting applications for "volunteens" and adult volunteers.
