Racine Unified School District moving fall sports to spring 2021 due to COVID-19 pandemic

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Racine Unified School District is moving fall sports to spring 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The decision was announced in a note from the Board of Education.

The statement can be read below:

"Based on the latest information and recommendations from our local health departments and in making every effort to ensure the safety and well-being of our students, coaches, staff and families, RUSD will be moving all fall sports to spring.

Our sports schedule will follow the alternative option provided by the WIAA last week. This modified schedule shortens all sports seasons to allow time for fall sports in the spring... We realize there might be an overlap with some sports. We will work with student-athletes and coaches to provide the best options for participation and address other questions as they arise.

All co-curriculars (e.g. clubs, band, choir, theater, cheer, etc.) are also temporarily suspended from in-person practices, meetings and competition. "
