Racine man charged in hit-and-run that killed 69-year-old Anthony Morales
RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 42-year-old man has been charged in Racine County in connection to a deadly hit-and-run that happened in December.
Anthony Morales, 69, was hit and killed outside his home on Erie Street in Racine on Dec. 22.
According to a criminal complaint, investigators located several vehicle parts at the scene of the hit-and-run, and determined they were from a 2019 or 2020 Subaru Ascent.
Officials obtained surveillance footage that shows a Silver Subaru Ascent driving on Erie Street the night of the incident. The video, according to the complaint, showed the Subaru brake, swerve and then strike Morales. The Subaru then drove to the intersection of Erie and English Street before eventually driving off.
On Dec. 29, investigators were called to an auto body shop after shop owner said Shawn Shelton dropped off a Subaru Ascent on Dec. 23, and said he hit a dumpster after work on Dec. 22.
The complaint says officers observed substantial damage to the Subaru's passenger's side, and located blood spots on a headlight, and apparent hair on the front passenger's side bumper.
Investigators matched the car parts from the crash scene to the silver Subaru.
According to the complaint, Shelton's cellphone showed location entries at the following places:
- 9:19 PM, at 6501 Washington Avenue (The Lanes Bowling Alley)
- 9:49 PM until 10:17PM, at 3101 Douglas Avenue (Double Vision Bar)
- 10:27 PM, at 1200 Erie Street
- 10:30 PM, at 3600 Erie Street
- 10:51 PM, at 1300 Carlton Drive
Shelton is charged with hit-and-run, resulting in death. He is being held on $50,000 cash bond.
