MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Before the debate, several protesters lined the street outside the debate hall to criticize Elon Musk's influence on the debate.
Several PACs tied to Musk have donated at least $6 million that has made its way to Brad Schimel's campaign.
The protesters criticized Schimel for taking the money.
At the same time, they acknowledge it shows this race is getting across the county.
"Elon Musk is aware of it, right? And he's dumping all this money, and I think voters understand we're now dealing with the most expensive court race. But we have a lot of out-of-state billionaires putting money into the race, so I think Wisconsin voters don't like that," said Max Love with Wisconsin Working Families Party.
On the other side, billionaires George Soros and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker recently contributed large sums of money to the Wisconsin Democratic Party. That money was then passed along to the Crawford campaign.
