MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Efforts are underway to revitalize Milwaukee neighborhoods and one is expanding to serve more people this summer.
"Promise Zones" are set up in five neighborhoods that have the greatest disparities.
The zones connect people to resources for jobs and other services. Common Council President Ashanti Hamilton says the initiative is focused on growing its relationship with the Milwaukee Police Department.
"There's a far more intentional relationship with officers in neighborhoods, building on police-community relations," said Ald. Ashanti Hamilton. "Being able to have a focused approach in neighborhoods that are most affected by poverty, that's the best practice of having an impact in those neighborhoods."
Other new features include connecting older kids with permanent jobs after the summer ends and giving adults training so they can enter the workforce.
