Process to refill Lake Wausau to begin Tuesday

ROTHSCHILD, Wis., (WSAW)  Domtar Paper will start refilling Lake Wausau after several weeks of concrete work on the Rothschild Dam.

The lake was lowered by about 5 feet for repairs to be done.
Domtar Government relations manager, Craig Timm said it’s the first set of major repairs made in nearly 40 years to the dam.

The water will be put back at about 4 inches a day and should take about a week to fully restore the area’s water.

Timm said the slow refill is in order to protect aquatic life and preserve the overall health of the lake.

Since it’s drawdown on Sept. 24, the Lake Wausau Association along with the Wisconsin Waterfowl Association have held volunteer clean-up missions and have extracted garbage bags, fishing poles and dozens of tires from the lowered lake.
