PORT WASHINGTON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Port Washington Fire Department is stepping up after a fellow fire station burned down in northern Wisconsin.
The department is donating a fire truck after the only station on Madeline Island was destroyed in March.
La Pointe Fire Department had to rely on neighboring stations for help after losing all of their vehicles and equipment. The Fire Chief at Port Washington is changing that. He says it was a 1988 fire the department endured that caused him to act.
"It's kind of demoralizing. Next to losing firefighters or civilians in a fire, losing your fire department, your station, your equipment, they lost everything," said Port Washington Fire Department Chief Mark Mitchell.
A crew of Port Washington Firefighters will meet the Madeline Island Fire Department halfway in Wausau next week to give them the fire truck.
