Police: Woman Escorts Bird Off Highway, Struck by Vehicle, Dies

(CHANNEL 3000) A woman died after being struck on Highway 30  near Madison on Wednesday, police said.

Madison police said officers responded to a report of a serious car-versus-pedestrian crash on Highway 30 at 2:29 p.m. The incident took place between Interstate 90/94 and Highway 51.

Police said the woman was attempting to escort a bird off of the highway when she was struck.

The driver is cooperating with the investigation, police said.

Police said initially that the woman suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck, but less than 2 hours later, announced she had succumbed to her injuries.

Police said the eastbound lanes could remain closed for a couple of hours and motorists were advised to use alternative routes.
