Police warn of scammers posing as fundraisers outside Kenosha area grocery stores

KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Kenosha police are warning the public of a scam taking place outside local grocery stores.
The police department says they've received reports of individuals who claim to be collecting donations for charitable causes, but who only accept credit card payments and ask to use the victim's cellphone to process the donations, leading to unauthorized charges.
Officials say to protect yourself, make sure to verify the legitimacy of any fundraising efforts by asking for official identification and documentation.
Do not hand over your cellphone or credit card to strangers, and if you feel pressured or uncomfortable, decline and walk away.
Any suspicious activity should be reported to store management and the Kenosha Police Department's non-emergency line at 262-656-1234.
