OAK CREEK, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Oak Creek police are investigating a string of strong armed robberies that happened Monday, Sept. 14. Authorities believe the group is targeting elderly victims.

According to police, three incidents happened between 10:39 a.m. and 11:10 a.m.

Police say the first report was at Woodman's Gas Station, located at 8151 S. Howell Avenue. A man was fueling his vehicle when police say two Black males assaulted him and attempted to steal his vehicle.

"They engage him in conversation, shortly thereafter they started to wrestle with him for his keys, he fought back," said Det. Robert Michalski from the Oak Creek Police Department.

The vehicle owner fought back and the suspects left.

Police believe the same group of suspects then approached another victim in a nearby apartment complex. The suspects got into the car but left without taking it.

"They pushed her down, took her purse, grabbed her keys and they were successful in stealing her 2020 Jeep Compass," said Det. Michalski.  They also stole her vehicle and cell phone.

Officers pursued two vehicles matching the description of the stolen vehicle and the suspects' vehicle, but stopped due to dangerous driving.

Police are urging people to be on the lookout.  "Be aware when you’re in the parking lot, look out for everybody, especially, they seem like they’re going after the elderly population," said Det. Michalski.
