MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Police Department released new video from September that shows an incident in which officers shot and killed a man after they say he shot at their squad car.

MPD released the surveillance and body cam video Friday as part of its community briefing series.

MPD says 40-year-old Sherman Solomon was one of three men who was firing into the air the night of Sept. 13th in the middle of a neighborhood.

When officers responded, MPD says Solomon and the two others ran. Solomon fired at the squad car, officers fired back, and Solomon later died.

The intense shootout in a Milwaukee neighborhood started just seconds earlier on 33rd near Cherry.

A home's surveillance camera captured two shots on video. A few seconds later the three suspects walked into view and several more shots were fired as they walked down the middle of the street.

One of the suspects called out, "How do you want to do it? Come out here, boy."

The suspects walked off camera, and just seconds later an MPD cruiser drove into view and down the street.

The officers' body cam video shows what happened when they caught up to the three suspects: Two ran south. Solomon ran north past the officers.

MPD said he shot at the squad car. A freeze frame of the video shows what appears to be a gun.

Officers got out of their car and fired back. Solomon fell to the ground.

An officer shouted, "Hands up! Hands up! Do not f***ing move!"

In the briefing video, MPD Inspector David Feldmeier said, ".40-caliber bullet casings were recovered along the flight path leading to where the subject fell, indicating shots were being fired at officers as he fled."

The shootout could be heard on the surveillance video down the block.

As Solomon lay on the ground, an officer shouted at him, "Where's the other guy? Where's the other guy?" Solomon replied, "I don't know."

Officers rolled Solomon over to handcuff him as he said, "I'm bleeding, boss." The officer replied, "Yeah, you almost f***ing shot me." Another officer radioed in, "Officer involved shooting. Shots fired at officers."

Solomon was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Inspector Feldmeier said, "Recovered where the suspect fell was a .40-caliber handgun with a high-capacity drum-style magazine."

Heroin was also recovered at the scene.

No one else was hurt.

Police are still looking for the other two suspects.

The officers involved are still on administrative leave while this incident is investigated.
