Milwaukee Police are on the watch for a suspect after they say someone was sexually assaulted near a University of Wisconsin Milwaukee residence hall.

The attack happened Friday around 10:30 a.m., not too far away from the Cambridge Commons dorms.

UWM sent an alert to students.

“They sent a text and it said there was a sexual assault in the neighborhood," said Hannah Ludwid, a UWM student. "And then they sent an email covering more about what happened."

The assault happened inside an apartment complex on the 2200 block of Cambridge. According to police, the suspect somehow entered the building, approached the victim from behind and assaulted the victim.

Students in the neighborhood said they're worried. “It makes me feel really anxious, I'm used to going out by myself to the store, which isn't too far and shouldn't be a problem but it just makes you feel on edge about it," said Karalyn Cisler, UWM student.

The suspect is described as a white man, 44-49 years old, 6’6” tall and 190 pounds. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a dark jacket and a black knit hat.

According to the alert, UWM officials do not believe neither the suspect nor victim is affiliated with the university.

Still, people in the neighborhood said it's disturbing.

"I really didn't wanna go venture out right away into this section cause I live right there, so it's just a little unnerving," Cisler added.

Anyone with information about the assault is asked to call the Milwaukee Police Tip Line, 414-935-7360.
