Madison Police arrest 19-year-old driver accused of hitting two pedestrians, one fatally

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Police have arrested a 19-year-old driver after two pedestrians were struck on the city's west side, one of them fatally.

Authorities say the Madison man was driving on South Midvale Boulevard when he lost control of his vehicle Friday night and struck a husband and wife walking their dog on the sidewalk.

The 72-year-old man was dead when police responded shortly after 8 p.m. The 68-year-old woman was critically injured and taken to the hospital.

A police spokesman told the Wisconsin State Journal on Saturday that the woman remains in critical but stable condition. The couple's dog was unhurt.
