Phone Scam Targets College Students in Wisconsin

College students in Wisconsin are being targeted in a phone scam.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation said several students at different universities around the state have been called by someone who claims to be from the government and who threatens to arrest the students if they don't pay thousands of dollars.

The demands are based on bogus claims for student loans or delinquent taxes or even overdue parking tickets.

The scammers make their threats look more credible by covering their number on the students' caller ID with the number of an FBI office in Wisconsin.

The thing to remember here is that the FBI does not call private citizens requesting money.

If you get one of these calls, contact police and your bank.
