Petition to recall Port Washington mayor falls short in signatures, city says
CBS 58 PORT WASHINGTON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A petition to recall the mayor of Port Washington has fallen several hundred signatures short of the number needed to initiate a recall election, according to an initial review from the city.
The deadline for the petition's submission was Monday, Feb. 16.
The attempted recall came after months of frustration from some residents who oppose the city's efforts to bring a data center to the area.
Despite countless protests and debates, the data center is now under construction.
Port Washington says the city clerk is still required to review and determine the sufficiency of the petition.
According to Great Lakes Neighbors United, one of the groups that organized the recall, 1,200 Port Washington residents signed the petition. They thanked residents in a statement, for helping to make Port Washington a more democratic place.
