People Over Pharma Profits: Gwen Moore discusses lowering prescription drug prices
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Congresswoman Gwen Moore and other lawmakers held a news conference Tuesday to talk about lower prescription drug prices.
The gathering was one of many held across the country.
The National Day of Action is called "People Over Pharma Profits". Organizers are urging Congress to take on pharmaceutical companies and find ways for people to get the medications they need at affordable prices. Among the hot topics was the cost of insulin.
"Both the Senate Finance Committee and the House Energy and Commerce Committee have launched investigations about the increased prices of insulin between 2002 and 2013," said Rep. Gwen Moore (D-Wisconsin).
Last month, the Trump administration announced it's open to having low-cost prescription drugs come into the U.S. from Canada. The head of Health and Human Services says states, wholesalers and pharmacies can now submit plans on how they would import certain drugs from Canada that are versions of FDA-approved drugs.
