Pat Murphy on his kids: 'You know, it's the greatest thing in my life'
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- With Pat Murphy agreeing to a contract extension, we have an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at his sons, Austin and Jaxon, who have become viral sensations.
"You know, it's the greatest thing in my life," Brewers Manager Pat Murphy says. "You know, I make no bones about it."
Manager Pat Murphy isn't talking about the Brewers.
"You guys have the cool Dad?" CBS 58's Lance Allan asked.
"You don't think so," Pat Murphy says.
"Austin doesn't," Jaxon Murphy says.
"Dad's gotta go to work," Pat Murphy says.
On this day, Austin and Jaxon Murphy visit spring training.
"I get to hear my dad talk about the game," Austin Murphy says. "And then it's kinda cool. It's really cool, actually."
Austin gained fame during the Dodgers series. What do they have to do to get out of this 2-0 deficit they're facing?
"Um, just stick with it and keep battling through it. I think they can do it," Austin Murphy says. "Really what I thought in the moment, but now our dad started this thing that we talk to him like we're actually talking in front of a crowd."
Jaxon gained notice of a different sort.
"The day he started laughing on the -- when I went like that, remember that? 6-7? 6-7!" Pat Murphy says with a laugh.
The kids have a front-row seat to life lessons.
"My dad really handles himself well after a loss," Austin Murphy says. "And that kind of like helps me with baseball, because like after I strike out or get an out, it helps me just be calm."
And occasionally he's just dad.
"Sometimes he overuses the jokes. But his jokes are sometimes funny. Most of the time funny, but sometimes he overuses them. A lot," Austin Murphy says.
"Some of my dad's jokes I laugh at. Some of them, I just don't say anything," Jaxon Murphy says. "And I just have my regular eyes."
As kids, they have favorites. This guy over here likes Corbin Carroll.
"That's true," Jaxon Murphy says.
Or teasing about it.
"I know who it is," Jaxon Murphy says. "Last time he said his favorite player on the Brewers was William Contreras. And Brice Turang."
"No, my favorite players on the Brewers are Brice Turang," Austin Murphy says.
But it's all in fun. And all in the family.
"You want your children to have great experiences, and this is just incredible," Pat Murphy says.
You're sure to see more of Austin and Jaxon at press conferences this season.
