Parts of Saukville machine shop open Tuesday following serious incident that injured workers

SAUKVILLE -- Some areas of Johnson Brass and Machine Foundry are open for business Tuesday following a serious incident at the plant Monday that left seven workers injured.

An employee told CBS 58 News that the foundry is closed and the machine shop where the company does some manufacturing will continue at a slow pace Tuesday out of respect for the injured workers. 

Four employees suffered serious injuries Monday and were taken to Columbia St. Mary's Regional Burn Center.

A night shift supervisor at the Saukville foundry told CBS 58 News that there was no explosion and said hot metal got loose and burned several men.

Molten brass at an estimated 2,100 degrees Fahrenheit was being poured into a tumbler spinning at a high rate of speed when something went wrong.

Fire officials, however, were still referring to the incident as an explosion hours after all the hurt workers were taken to the hospital.

\"It had to be a pretty good explosion to throw six or seven people,\" Saukville Fire Chief Gilly Schultz said.

Fire crews were quickly able to put out the 2-alarm fire that followed.
