Panthers Women's team earns six seed in Horizon League Tournament
MILWAUKEE, (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Panthers women's basketball holds on to defeat Purdue Fort Wayne 53-51 on Feb. 26 in the final seconds of the game to clinch the six seed in the Horizon League Tournament.
According to Milwaukee Athletics, Emma Wittmerhaus nailed two free throws in the final 1.9 seconds of the game.
"I am proud of how we finished. Our team made some big plays down the stretch," head coach Kyle Rechlicz said. "I thought our execution on the last play was very good. It is all about doing your job and Emma was huge for us in that last moment."
The Panthers final possession ended with with four offensive rebounds, with the most crucial one coming from Wittmerhaus, according to Milwaukee Athletics.
Milwaukee had a 31-19 lead going into the half, with much of the production coming from McKaela Schmelzer, who recorded 10 points on 4-for-8 shooting.
Schmelzer finished the game as the leading scorer with 15 points.
Walstad racked up 13 rebounds on the day, 10 of them coming defensively.
The Panthers (14-15,13-9) finish the regular season on a high note. They will host No. 11 UIC on March 1 at 7:00 p.m.
