Panther Party In Madison: UWM upsets Wisconsin at Kohl Center
UWM's Panthers pulled off an unlikely upset Wednesday night, beating the Badgers 68-67 on Wisconsin's home floor to snap a 22-game losing streak to the Badgers.
Nigel Hayes scored 32 points for UW, but missed a couple of late free throws with less than 30 seconds to play. Bronson Koenig had a chance to win it for the Badgers at the buzzer, but his three point attempt was off the mark.
Jordan Johnson scored 22 points for the Panthers, and Matt Tiby added 15 points and 11 rebounds. Wisconsin had a 12 point lead midway through the second half, but Milwaukee kept cutting into that lead and eventually grabbed it away with a Jordan Johnson jumper with a little more than two minutes to play.
The Badgers rallied twice to tie the game in the ensuing minute-plus, but Akeem Springs hit two free throws to give Rob Jeter's bunch the lead for good with 22 seconds to play. Those free throws came moments after Hayes missed his two chances to tie the game from the free throw line.
Wisconsin (6-4) lost on their home floor for the second time this season, the first coming to Western Illinois in the regular season opener. Milwaukee (7-3) won its third straight game overall.
