Packers to replace surface of Lambeau Field during offseason

GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Packers will be replacing the field at Lambeau during the upcoming offseason. The Packers team website said the changes made will not be noticeable and the final product will basically be the same type of field the Packers have played on for the past decade.

Lambeau Field's synthetic fibers are showing wear and tear from age and the Packers are using the opportunity to make improvements to the root zone, irrigation and the heating system underneath the field. The rubber apron surrounding the field will also be replaced.

New sod with a growth period will be installed in the spring and the stitching of the synthetic fibers will happen in July.

The project will start at the end of the season in mid-February and last until early August. The goal is to have the field ready for the annual Family Night practice during training camp.
