Packers still have chance at playoffs, here's what needs to happen
GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Green Bay Packers chances of making the playoffs looked dire a few weeks ago, but thanks to a must win against the Falcons last week, their playoff chances are still alive, albeit barely. C
Currently, FiveThirtyEight gives the Packers a three percent chance of making the playoffs and less than a one percent chance to win the Super Bowl.
In addition to winning their remaining three games, the Packers will need a whole lot of other teams to lose. FiveThirtyEight says that if the Packers beat the Bears their playoff chances go up to 11 percent, if they defeat the Jets it goes up to nineteen percent and if they go on to run the table to end the season their playoff chances maximize at 29 percent. So even if they do win out, it still doesn't look great.
To have any chance, the Packers need the Panthers, Redskins, and Eagles to each lose one of their remaining games. And they would need the Vikings to lose two games OR the Seahawks to lose three.
The Panthers still have to play the Super Bowl favorite Saints two times so a loss their looks attainable. The Panthers remaining game is against the Falcons.
The Redskins have remaining games against the Jaguars, Titans and Eagles. A loss to one of those three also looks possible.
The Eagles play the Rams, Texans and Redskins. The Rams and Texans have been surging in recent weeks so a loss to at least one of those two looks likely.
The hardest part will be getting either the Vikings to lose two more or the Seahawks to lose three. More teams have fairly easy remaining schedules with the Vikings taking on the Dolphins, Lions and Bears. The Seahawks face the 49ers, Chiefs and Cardinals.
