A night of heavy rain and flooding brings a lot of frustration and also cleanup for some folks in Kenosha. I was there as the rain was coming down, including all the cloud-to-cloud and cloud-to-ground lightning. At least 3 to 4 inches of rain in just a few hours created a mess including cars submerged in water and closed roads.
The intersection of 39th Avenue and 75th Street seemed to take the brunt of it. You could even see the waterline on some of the buildings. The House of Gerhard restaurant wasn't spared.
I spoke with some family members of the owner, and they say they have three feet of standing water in the basement beside no power. The family says this kind of flooding happens once every ten years. They hope to re-open the restaurant by the end of the week.
