Orphans fund set up for little girl who witnessed murder suicide and her siblings

MILWAUKEE-Three young children left orphaned by a murder suicide Thursday and 24 hours later it was confirmed that the oldest at just six years old was a witness.

\"She saw the whole thing,\" block watch captain Sandy Gomez told CBS 58 News on Friday night. \"She then got all her siblings and had them wait on the front porch for help.

Police confirmed identifies Friday. The victim of the homicide was Janie Jefferson, 26.

The deceased suspect was Dontavion A. Smith, also 26.

A local business owner through Alderman Bob Donovan donated $500 to a fund for the children.

The Milwaukee Police Union also asking members of the community to match its $500 donation.

\"In the spirit of the community, in the spirit of Christmas,\" declared President Mike Crivello.

Donations can be made through any Tri-City Bank, just ask for the Jefferson Orphan Fund.

Toy donations can also be dropped off at the home of block watch Captain Gomez at 1626 South 21st Street.

Steve Fendt of the Southside Organizing Committee arranged for the fund. He guaranteed the money will go the children who are currently in foster care.

No other family has claimed them.

Captain Al Morales says many people have been asking what they can do, not just from the immediate neighborhood but surrounding neighborhoods on the near south side.

\"We are owning what happens in our community,\" said the Captain flanked by other fellow officers whose job it is to patrol this section of Milwaukee.
