MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – Individual pipers from the Greater Milwaukee Fire and Police Pipes and Drums will be performing “Amazing Grace” at midnight on May 15, 2021 to recognize fallen police officers. The Greater Milwaukee Pipes and Drums was formed to honor fire service and law enforcement personnel who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Pre-Covid-19, the band would participate in Police Week in Washington DC which included a Candlelight ceremony at Midnight followed by the playing of “Amazing Grace.” Last year because of the pandemic and the cancellation of Police Week, the band chose to carry on the Midnight Piper tradition of recognizing fallen officers by having individual pipers play “Amazing Grace” at midnight at local Wisconsin Police Departments. That tradition will again take place this year with 15 pipers and Wisconsin Police Departments participating on May 15, which is the Official Police Memorial Day as set aside by President John F. Kennedy in 1962.
