OnStar helps police catch suspected car thief in Washington County

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 16-year-old Milwaukee boy was arrested after police say he stole a car that was stopped with the help of OnStar.

According to the Washington Coutny Sheriff's Office, investigators received information from OnStar around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday that a stolen car was northbound on I-41 near CTH K. Squads located the vehicle going 83 mph near Mohawk Road in the Town of Wayne.

The Sheriff's Office says their 911 Communications Center was able to coordinate with OnStar to gradually slow the vehicle down to a controlled stop while keeping the steering functioning. Deputies were close behind and took the teen into custody.

Investigators report that charges of operating a  motor vehicle without owner's consent, possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia will be referred to youth court. The teen was then taken to the Waukesha County Sheriff's Office as the vehicle had been stolen from a youth treatment center in Waukesha County.
